It’s time to celebrate Women’s History Month HerStory style! Presented by Mayor Muriel Bowser and hosted by FITDC and the incredible women who’ve shaped our city and country, the FITDC HerStory 5K, powered by AETNA, is the ultimate free run/walk event that brings energy, empowerment, and community to the streets of DC.
This year, we highlight Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future, alongside the spirit of running for the woman behind you; a reminder that progress happens when we move forward together and uplift one another.
Every March for the past 7 years, thousands of locals and visitors have gathered at Freedom Plaza for this vibrant celebration of the 350,000 amazing women and girls in DC and the 168 million across the nation who are making history every single day.
The day kicks off with a dynamic pre-race program featuring inspiring speakers, followed by a scenic route down Pennsylvania Avenue. Along the way, enjoy powerful displays honoring trailblazing women, interactive exhibits highlighting women’s history, and a joyful post-race festival filled with music, giveaways, and vendors from local women-owned businesses.
This event is totally stroller and dog-friendly (just keep those pups leashed), so bring your whole squad!
Bright, bold, and full of heart, the HerStory 5K is more than a race; it’s a celebration of women’s impact, strength, and unity.
Race day check-in and registration will take place from 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM.
Pre-race packet pick-up is strongly encouraged to help ensure a smooth start for all participants.
Please note that race day registration and timing requests will close one hour prior to the race start.
Limited giveaways, including event shirts, will be available on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of the event. Early arrival is recommended.
Our Kids Dash is a short, fun race designed especially for young children, usually under the age of 12. It’s often held alongside larger races or community events to let kids be part of the action in a safe, age-appropriate way.
The race is short and non-competitive, focusing more on fun and participation than winning.
Kids sized T-shirt and bib will be given out race day as supplies last!
